The Role
This is a senior technical and operational position that offers you the chance to lead engineering performance across Bolton and a second depot at Chorley. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that all fleet vehicles are safe, reliable, and maintained to the highest standards, supporting daily operational requirements and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee engineering performance and standards across two depots
- Manage fleet maintenance, routine inspections, servicing, and repair programmes
- Maximise vehicle fleet availability and minimise downtime
- Monitor engineering compliance and ensure accurate maintenance documentation
- Provide technical leadership and day-to-day support to workshop teams
- Balance engineering priorities, workload, and operational demands
- Support engineering budgets, ensuring cost control and efficient maintenance expenditure
- Work directly with operational management to meet service needs
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering standards and reliability
Skills and Experience
You’ll need to bring significant experience in PSV, bus, or coach engineering, and have held a management or senior supervisory position within a similar environment. Strong technical knowledge of heavy commercial vehicles, a good understanding of day-to-day bus and coach operations, and the ability to oversee engineering activity across multiple sites are essential.
- Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills
- Comprehensive understanding of vehicle maintenance and engineering compliance
- Experience managing engineering teams and workshop priorities
- PSV driving licence and Transport Manager CPC are beneficial, but not required
