The Role

You will join the professional engineering management team in East London garage, helping to keep a modern and varied fleet of buses running safely and efficiently for the people of east London and the City. Supporting the Engineering Manager, you will lead the day-to-day management of the engineering function, ensuring buses are maintained to the high standards expected by the Company, TfL, and DVSA.

Your influence will extend beyond fleet reliability to include promoting Health & Safety compliance and culture, managing fatigue, and championing employee wellbeing. With a key role in supporting sustainable transport, you’ll also get involved with the fleet’s transition toward electric and technology-enhanced vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Support the Engineering Manager in all aspects of garage engineering operations
• Provide leadership and motivation to the engineering team, ensuring high standards are achieved and maintained
• Uphold Health & Safety standards and foster a positive compliance culture
• Ensure effective fatigue management procedures are in place
• Drive continuous improvement in vehicle availability, safety, and environmental performance
• Ensure all vehicles meet statutory and company maintenance standards
• Assist in planning, prioritising, and analysing team tasks and engineering issues

Skills and Experience

• Strong background in mechanical engineering and large vehicle maintenance, ideally including PCVs
• Some knowledge of electrical engineering, bodywork construction, and stores procedures
• Ability to work towards or obtain a Transport CPC if required
• Solid decision-making, planning and analytical skills
• Current understanding of Health & Safety legislation
• Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within an engineering environment for large vehicles

Location and Package

This permanent position is based in Stratford. You’ll work any five days out of seven on a shift basis, supporting essential bus services across East London with a strong, stable employer promoting diversity and inclusion.
