The Role
As Engineering Manager, you'll oversee the engineering operations at the Tolworth garage, ensuring that every vehicle is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and presentation. You'll manage a team of engineering professionals, driving continuous improvement, compliance, and high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all engineering staff comply with company policies, Health & Safety standards, and statutory regulations
- Guarantee vehicles meet daily peak requirements and are clean, reliable, and VOSA-compliant
- Oversee maintenance programmes and ensure workplace health, safety, and environmental compliance
- Lead and motivate your team, managing recruitment, training, performance, and development
- Control the engineering budget, driving cost efficiency and reducing waste
- Oversee scheduling for vehicle maintenance, minimising lost mileage and improving fleet reliability
- Deliver effective administrative and record-keeping processes
- Work closely with Operations to resolve issues efficiently and maintain high service quality
- Drive continuous improvement by regularly reviewing department performance and implementing new initiatives
- Maintain high standards of workshop housekeeping and equipment safety
- Promote a strong safety culture through robust risk assessments and full compliance with legislation
Skills and Experience
- Proven background as a Manager, Supervisor, or Charge Hand in a transport engineering setting (buses preferred)
- Strong people management skills: able to motivate, develop, and manage performance
- High technical competence and engineering knowledge
- Confident IT user, particularly with Excel and MS Outlook
- Experience managing budgets and delivering cost efficiencies
- Relevant Health & Safety Management qualification
- Desirable: Full driving licence (PCV an advantage); analytical problem-solving abilities; highly organised and detail-focused
Location and Package
- Role based at Tolworth
- Competitive salary: £74,000 per annum
- Discretionary performance bonus of up to 15% of salary
